Teaching

I am an adjunct English faculty member at Metropolitan Community College, where I also serve as the Adjunct Faculty Representative for the English Department. I have taught ENGL 0950: Reading and Responding and ENGL 1010: English Composition I.

At the center of my teaching is community. I work intentionally to cultivate classrooms that are safe, collaborative, and student-centered spaces where students feel supported enough to take intellectual risks and confident enough to trust their own voices. I believe effective learning happens when students are encouraged to engage with texts, ideas, and one another through open dialogue and mutual respect.

My pedagogy blends structure with flexibility. I emphasize clear expectations while remaining responsive to students’ lived experiences, recognizing that learning is not one-size-fits-all. Through discussion-based activities, guided workshops, and reflective writing, I aim to help students develop critical thinking skills, confidence as writers and readers, and a sense of belonging within the academic space.

As a first-generation college graduate, I bring empathy to the classroom and am especially attentive to the needs of first-year and at-risk students. Teaching, for me, is an evolving practice: rooted in reflection, adaptability, and a commitment to meeting students where they are.

About the author

Bryce Blair is a writer of fiction and poetry whose work explores grief, desire, memory, and the quiet ways queerness reshapes a life. Drawing on Midwestern and mythic landscapes, his writing is attentive to what lingers: unsaid tensions, emotional residue, and the weight of detail. He is interested in how intimacy is built between text and reader, often blending poetic and narrative forms to interrogate identity, class, and belonging. His work has appeared in 13th Floor Magazine, and he lives and writes in Nebraska.
